Q. Can the public tour Wētā FX?

A.

Due to the confidentiality required for the projects we work on, we are unable to host guests at our facilities. However, The Wētā Group has established the Wētā Cave (Wellington) and Wētā Workshop Unleashed (Auckland) that offer a variety of experiences and provides behind-the-scenes detail into what we do. Q. I am a student seeking help with my school project. Can I interview someone from Wētā FX?

A.

We receive a large number of requests for information in connection with student projects and we are not able to respond to each one individually. This website, however, contains answers to many of the most commonly asked questions about Wētā FX, and information about the VFX and animation industry as a whole. We also recommend referencing Weta Digital: 20 Years of Imagination on Screen (Weta; 2014)

Q. I am from the media and would like to request an interview and/or images and clips

A.

Please send an email to publicity@wetafx.co.nz containing all relevant details, including your interview topic, deadline, information regarding your publication or outlet, and requirements for supporting imagery and clips

Q. What software do you use or recommend?

A.

Wētā FX uses a lot of its own proprietary software built and maintained in-house, as well as common industry software. Key software we include are 3D Equalizer, Barbershop, Eddy, Gazebo, Houdini, Katana, Loki, Lumberjack, Manuka, Mari, Maya, MotionBuilder, Nuke, Photoshop, Synapse, Tissue, Totara, and Massive.
