Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb.
Wētā FX created the fictional Middle-eastern city of Shiruta, c of equally fictional Khandaq. A full CG model of the city was created for a multitude of fly-overs and aerial battles and a few specific locations were created in minute detail, including the waterfront market place that we got to destroy in spectacular fashion, the sunken street archeological environment and the palace with its throne room where the final battle takes place.
The film is packed with superpower FX, including Black Adam’s own lightning and fire.
The Heroes – the Justice Society - have a range of effects to their characters; Dr Fate creates Clones – fully CG multiples of his own form but without his powers and easily shattered into glass. We also created Dr Fate’s magic with its geometric forcefield and crystalline destruction.
Cyclone controls wind and our animation team conjured a visually striking effect of her cartwheeling and moving inside the hurricane, shown in the film in slow motion during the scenes of fighting in the streets.
Hawkman has been outfitted with a set of fully indestructible CG wings and our animators made Atom Smasher defy the laws of physics by rapidly growing and shrinking.
The main villain, Sabbac, was fleshed out by Wētā from detailed concept sketches and the models team added horns and facial hair while he was also given glow FX. The character was created as a full performing digital character capable of delivering high fidelity in close-up shots.
The epic final battle in the Throne Room between Sabbac and the full Justice Society, now including Black Adam, delivers a spectacle of hero FX and extensive environmental destruction.
