Creature Assistant Technical Director
As a creatures ATD, he is responsible for ensuring that any animation that has been published out of the Motion, Layout, or Camera teams passes through the internal creature simulation pipeline. This involves launching and monitoring simulations and flagging any issues to the appropriate people/departments. He also sets up collisions between characters/environments, creating shot specific sculpts and rigs for props.
Working on all sorts of amazing projects with hugely talented people is an incredible opportunity in David’s book. And experiencing how an asset moves through the pipeline, having the best of one person’s work build on top of the next and then seeing the final result is really inspiring as an artist.
ADVICE FROM DAVID: "At the age 30, I made the decision to change career paths and go back to study a VFX degree. Though there were challenges to that, it’s the decision that ultimately lead me to where I am today. On many occasions, due to an experience I’ve drawn from outside of the VFX industry, I’ve found myself in a position to see a different solution to my colleagues, which can be incredibly valuable."
"If working in this industry is something you want to do, just jump in and pursue it. It’s absolutely never too late, you’ll find countless people along the way ready to support and guide you."
