Jonas Sperl

In 2008, he joined Wētā FX to work on Avatar as a Layout Technical Director, and has since worked on some very technically challenging shows including The Hobbit trilogy, and the Planet of the Apes franchise revival. As a Technical Supervisor, Jonas works within the Layout Department to test new workflows and tools, train artists and troubleshoot technical issues. He helps quality control data produced by Layout, and liaises with developers, technical groups and other departments.

Jonas continues to develop his technical understanding of the various aspects of VFX production and works towards improving the Layout pipeline. He enjoys the mix of technical and creative challenges his role entails.

ADVICE FROM JONAS: Film is a collaborative process that involves a lot of diverse departments and roles. Watch as many behind the scenes clips and read as many film art books as you can and use those to get an insight into the aspects of VFX that you most want to pursue.
